ArmorRenew Tips and Techniques for Wood

1. SURFACES Decks: ArmorRenew Coating should only be applied on horizontal, structurally sound wood, horizontal concrete patios, and most horizontal composite surfaces. Some composite decking is engineered with moisture repellents or sealers that may prevent proper adhesion. Be sure to follow specific manufacturer’s recommendation before applying to any composite decking. Patios: For concrete patios, please refer to Tips & Techniques for Concrete.

NOT FOR USE ON: Smooth or floated concrete, fiberglass, tile, and metal surfaces. These surfaces will not allow for proper adhesion. Do not use on driveways, garages, or other areas with vehicular traffic. USE OF THE 9” ARMORRENEW COATING ROLLER COVER IS REQUIRED FOR PROPER APPLICATION (one roller for every 8 gallons)

2. NEW WOOD New wood may be wet with chemicals or have mill glaze from pressure treated wood. New wood should age for a minimum of 6 months before applying ArmorRenew Coating. The lumber must dry completely before applying the product to prevent peeling of the coating. The surface must also be properly cleaned and prepared using ArmorRenew Deck Cleaner to remove all foreign material and mill glaze prior to application. Follow the PREPARATION instructions to be sure that the surface is ready for the ArmorRenew Coating.

3. DECK CLEANER: Prepare your deck for the wonders of ArmorRenew with the Renew Deck Cleaner! This product cleans wood surfaces from mold/mildew and other surface contaminants and assures excellent adhesion to your coat of ArmorRenew Resurfacer. This 1-gallon solution cleans up to 400 square feet and should be diluted in a 1:16 ratio with water.

4. USE OF PRIMER: The use of the ArmorRenew Wood Primer is strongly recommended for wood application prior to applying ArmorRenew. When applying the primer it appears milky during application but dries clear. Allow the primer to dry 2 hours before applying the solid topcoat over the primer. Do not apply the topcoat until the entire primed surface is clear and there are no white areas showing anywhere on the deck, including cracks and nail holes.
