Yes - Armor Liquid Membrane can be used on interior pools to coat however you must follow the process described below based on your pool substrate type, condition, and expectation for finish.
To prepare a pool, we recommend using our Armor Lift Cleaner (Blue) and Armor Soap Cleaner (Green). Armor Lift Cleaner is an alkaline solution that targets any hard water deposits, alkalinity, efflorescence, stains, etc. Armor Soap is a neutralizing solution that will balance the pH level of the substrate to ensure maximum adhesion of Armor Liquid Membrane.
Here is how you apply the Armor Lift Cleaner and Armor Soap Cleaner
First, you dampen the surface. Then you apply the Armor Lift Cleaner solution lightly with a pump sprayer and allow it to sit for 2-3 minutes. Scrub/agitate the surface using a scrub machine with a nylon brush or hand scrub brush and rinse it well with water.
Once the surface has dried for an hour, apply the Armor Soap Cleaner The ratio is 1 part Armor Soap and 4 parts water. You can use a pump sprayer and allow it to sit for 2-3 mins and rinse it well with water after. Repeat, if needed.
Once the surface is fully dry, you will be able to apply 3 coats of Armor Liquid Membrane (Submerged Applications).
Can Armor Liquid Membrane be applied over chlorinated rubber pools?
Yes, it can be applied over chlorinated rubber. You just need to ensure to properly prepare and neutralize the area being coated.
Is there any difference in the process or which cleaners to use on Chlorinated Rubber v. Epoxy Pools Paints?
No. The only difference will be with fiberglass substrates. We recommend using Armor Power Cleaner + Armor Soap Cleaner then giving it a light sand using 60 grit sandpaper.
- When it comes to pool paints, Armor Liquid Membrane can be applied over existing water-based paints but it is not recommended as it bonds to what it is being applied to. We do not recommend applying over petroleum, oil-based, or silicone products - these will need to be removed prior to application. For oil-based areas, we recommend Armor Power Cleaner + Armor Soap Cleaner. If there is water damage/build-up then we recommend Armor Power Cleaner + Armor Lift Cleaner.
How should I clean unpainted pools (Gunite or Concrete)?
Follow the same prep process as described above.
- Armor Liquid Membrane can bridge cracks up to 1/4". If the crack is greater, then the Fabric Reinforcement would be recommended or filled with mortar, etc. It does not cover gaps or holes, it will just go through. Please keep in mind, that the Fabric Reinforcement will be visible!
Please ensure the application is done in a continuous manner and the Armor Liquid Membrane is above the waterline.
What about cementitious (porous) pools?
If at some point, you encounter a cementitious (porous) pool with much hydrostatic pressure (water intrusion) or the surface can not get dry, it would be best to use Armor Natural Seal+ Armor Liquid Membrane. For this application, It would be 3 coats of each coating.
THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND
-
- Using the Clear is not recommended for submerged applications as it turns milky white when wet and back to clear, once dry.
- For more resistance, quartz sand or anti-slip can be added to the product. Ensure to mix well and apply.
- For Pool decks: we recommend Armor Defense Seal for its ability to reduce surface temperature.
